Yoga for Absolute Beginners
Learn the fundamentals of the yoga experience with other absolute beginners.You are slowly guided through various yoga postures, breathing techniques, and alignment principles. In each class a new element is added. The workshop introduces techniques to build the core, become more flexible, ease back pain, destress, and detoxify.
Over the course of 4 sessions we focus on releasing tension, increasing flexibility, developing core strength, and proper breathing. Standing postures, forward bends, and twists, and inversions will practiced to promote:
Detoxification
Body suppleness and strength
Stress reduction
Mental awareness for clearer thinking.
This beginners class is meant for anyone new to the practice or for those looking to review the basic of the poses. Although this is a beginners class be prepared to sweat!

Absolute Beginners Schedule
Tuesdays and Thursday mornings 4 class over two week

I traveled to Montreal in July to spend 4 days in an amazing intensive workshop with (Mark) Darby. I enjoyed the workshop so much that I am bringing Mark and Joanne Darby to Toronto so that I can study more with them and that I can share their teachings with the students at Fireflow and throughout the ashtanga community here. WORKSHOP DETAILS:
Mark Darby, aka "Darby" & his wife Joanne have been practicing Astanga Yoga for over 30 years. They began their practice with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the master of Astanga Yoga, in 1979 when they spent four years in Mysore, India. They are part of the few teachers worldwide, and the only ones in Canada, who have attained the highest level of Astanga Yoga teaching accreditation and are certified by Pattabhi Jois to teach the original Astanga method.
Darby's teaching is dynamic and direct while giving students the essence of the energy of ashtanga yoga. In Montreal and elsewhere, his wisdom and warmth attract a vibrant community of students who are drawn to his humor, his attentive nature and his steadfast commitment to improving each student's physical alignment.

Session 1

Introduction to Astanga & Principles of breath and movements - Breath, Vinyasa, Bandha & posture:
This Friday Night Session will lay the foundation for the rest of the workshop. Learning the mechanism of breath and how it affects the physical body, the emotional body, and the mental body. Optimizing and understanding bandhas and its affect on one’s body. With very specific exercise and explanation, we will bring this understanding to the various asanas with a clear purpose of circulating the energy flow in the body.

Session 2
11:00 am- 1:30 pm
Foundations & Standing Poses
Learn how to move with your body instead of against it. By going with your body’s natural alignment the prana will flow through you without blocks stopping it. In this workshop we will explore basic asanas, with a particular focus on alignment and breathing, as well as how to link the asanas into a flowing sequence. We will cover the sun salutations & standing poses, building a solid foundation from which to progress and get the most out of your practice.
Session 3
3:00pm -6:00 pm
Side twists & Forward Bends
Twists help remove stiffness in the back, neck and shoulders and tone the internal organs. We will incorporate the standing, and sitting twists into a workshop that improves digestion and brings more flexibility into the spine. This class also explores forward bends; stretching with alignment, protecting the lower back and finding real length through reaching.
Sunday, October 24
Session 4

Arm Balances
This class is for those challenged by arm balances and for those who love them! We will explore poses that will strengthen and prepare for arm balances. Basic shoulder alignment will be built through simpler poses and carried forth to full arm balances.
Session 5
1:20 pm- 4:30 pm
Back bending
We will work step by step in practicing the key alignment points that help us practice these poses with ease and safety. We will help students build confidence while finding ways to work with common issues surrounding these poses. With a focus on how to protect vulnerable areas such as the lower back, shoulders and neck.

Prenatal Yoga
5 weeks / $90 (+GST)
Pregnancy is an incredible, profound time in a woman's life, unlike any other! Give yourself and your baby the gift of yoga and spend your nine months (and beyond) feeling healthy, happy and positively glowing! Yoga can relieve many discomforts of pregnancy. Linking yoga postures with the breath will lead you to new discoveries, bringing awareness to the mind, body and spirit, and also the spirit of your baby. The classes are conducted in a calm, peaceful environment. The postures help facilitate more comfortable birthing, with postures that open the pelvis and use gravity to your advantage. Mentally, it enables you to enter into delivery focused and relaxed. You also find support and community practicing in a group with other pregnant women. No prior yoga experience is necessary. The classes use props such as blankets and blosters to make a variety of postures comfortable for everyone. Recommended for women in their 2nd or 3rd trimester of pregnancy.

The Ecstatic Ways of Knowing~The Sacred Gift Of Yoga
An intro to Danny’s Non-Dogmatic, humorous, gentle, healing approach with emphasis on an expanded standing sequence with derivative poses. Modifications and variations, primary sequence of Ashtanga and an expanded finishing sequence.
About Danny:
Danny has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga since 1976 and teaching worldwide since 1979. He communicates the teachings on ancient traditions in a non-dogmatic contemporary, compassionate, humorous way. His purpose is to help people develop a sacred, safe, meditative, healing, joyful, expanding, pain free, personal self-practice. Danny teaches all the Ashtanga sequences with emphasis on an expanding evolving practice as well as showing derivative poses, modifications and variations.
Danny has introduced Ashtanga Yoga to world famous artists, musicians, actors, film directors, sports champions.

Yoga Bootcamp

Yoga for Athletes, Runners & Cyclists
When we participate in a sport or type of training we may create imbalances in the body. This 5 part workshop will show you how to strengthen the weak areas and stretch the tight areas in your body. Reduce your risk of injury by increasing your flexibility and strength. Balance, Symmetry and Alignment are the keys to being a healthy athlete. Do it for your hips and hamstrings! Whether you are a runner, a skier, or a squash player, this six-session workshop offers the perfect opportunity to tune into your body for improved athletic performance and overall well being. Participants should be prepared to move and sweat, but are encouraged to work within themselves and honor their limits.

Early Morning Yoga

Feel the benefits of starting your day with a flowing vinyasa class which will make you sweat and flow with energy. The class is open to all levels.

FRIDAYS 6.30am - 7.45am starts Friday, July 9th
Drop-ins and registration after starting date is welcome if space allows. Annual passholders are free. Monthly passholders receive a 25% discount. Regular class passes are accepted with a $5 supplement. There are no make-ups but you can make-up a class with a regular class during the same period as the session.

Friday Morning Pilates
8 weeks /$120 (+GST)
This class takes you through a fun and dynamic work out. Gain strength, flexibility, coordination and a heightened sense of body awareness through Pilates. Suitable for all levels.

Kids Yoga
A special class just for kids which combines yoga, play and partner games. Children learn yoga poses, games, and relaxation exercises. Many of the poses relate to nature, birds, and animals, whichs make yoga a natural interest for children. Partner poses and cooperative yoga games inspire positive peer interactions. Classes allow children to develop a greater sense of body-awareness, social skills, concentration, and self-esteem.

Get ready for the ultimate summer adventure with Kids Yoga Camp! Discover yoga through fun breathing exercises, yoga poses, partner yoga, games, music, science experiments, eco-awareness activities, relaxation, and creative arts projects. Each camp day will explore a new theme, building on understanding of yoga practices. Learn how to salute the sun, stand on your head, and more! Kid Yoga camp is recommended for children ages 4-11 years of age!

Over 30 days we challenge you to do at least 20 yoga classes. As a group, participants are united and driven by their common goal.
Teachers are available to address concerns, advice, or simply listen. Yoga has many benefits - physiological, mental and emotional. By committing to a daily practice, those benefits unfold at a more rapid rate.
